Today i'm listening to "Right Before My Eyes" by Cage The Elephant
Why do i keep making the same mistake over and over? Even though the consequences are 'right before my eyes'..

staring at the ceiling..
I came across a playlist tonight, it's called "songs to lie on your bed and stare at the ceiling to". Okay, so i can admit.. i do that a lot, you know, sit up late at night with really 'dreamy' music playing. It's some kind of therapy. Sounds daft, but after a hard day, when everything's gone wrong, it's all i want to do. It feels like you have forever sitting in the palm of your hands. Time slows down to the point that your racing thoughts from the day slowly develop into dreams.
-- Oh my god, yeah, it sounds like i'm turning into some mushy creative writing student.. which i'm really not! Everything for me these days has turned into a blur, there's so many options for me in my life, and i don't know which one to take. Hardly something to complain about really, there's just so much pressure to succeed these days, it's nice to have the time out late at night..
If you're ever majorly stressed, or after some peace.. try it.

Oh, to be free
Today i'm listening to "Closer to Free" by Bodeans
I love this song, simply because it points out so obviously how everybody just wants to be left to live their life how they want to. After visiting my ill grandad in hospital today, and hearing him go on and on and on about how he has to spend his day how the nurses and doctors want him to spend it, it saddened me to think that we all end up that way. We all have our freedoms taken from us at some stage..
Everybody wants to be, closer to free.

Tonight i'm listening to "Roll With It" by Oasis
If you could change something about yourself, what would it be? Your appearance, your attitude to life? I'd change whatever it is about me that makes me get so stressed so easily. When it all gets on top of you and you feel trapped just has to be the worst feeling, right? I wish i had a "roll with it" attitude, life would be so much easier..

Tonight i'm listening to "End of the Day" by Beck
Listening to music at night.. there's nothing better. As soon as the sun falls, the mind seems to wander.. reflecting on the day, thinking about the future, planning, analysing. It's my favourite time of the day.

What i'm listening to today : "Child For A Day" by Cat Stevens
I'd give anything to live another day as a kid.. I miss everything about being young.. the freedom, the innocence, and the fact that life didn't seem so chaotic, each day would come and go, and you wouldn't question anything.

What I'm listening to :
"Just The Way I'm Feeling" Feeder
Wondering, hoping, dreaming, imagining.
Lonely, sad, uplifted, inspired..there's a connection somewhere..
It's just the way i'm feeling.

Today i'm listening to "from Grace" by Thomas Dybdahl
I heard about his really horrible story today, how he lost his wife and newborn baby in the space of a few weeks. That's pretty hard, emotionally. It's the motive behind many of his songs, which is what makes them so beautiful, and sometimes can actually bring you to tears. This song brings me to tears, but strangely, not in a sad way..

i find comfort in sadness..
Today i'm listening to "Need You Now" by Lady Antebellum
I'd rather hurt than feel nothing at all..
I hate when it gets okay to be sad, okay to feel down. When it becomes comforting to be sad. Story of my life.

New band guys!
Looking for a new band to explore into? Check out The Lumineers.
I recently discovered their stuff, and i haven't come across a band song yet, their self titled album was released just a couple of weeks ago, worth looking up.

lack of activity? sorry guys..
Yes, i've been away! It happens time to time..
Anyway, today i'm listening to "Home" by Foo Fighters
Not only has my time away given me a chance to reflect (yes, something i do fairly often..) but it's given me a chance to miss home. You know the saying "absence makes the heart grow fonder"? Well, it's true. I find missing home gives me a chance to really appreciate what i have. I even missed every ridiculously cheesy quote on my wall.. Which, looking at them right now, it reminds me of who i was when i put them up there in the first place, and what a dark place i was in, and how today, i'm completely different. But as many will tell you, when you've been in that place for a long time, you carry it around pretty much for the rest of your life whether it be as a distant memory in the back of your mind, or a very clear one.
So it's pretty much the title in itself with this song for me. There's nothing better.

5/4/12, got soul?
Today i'm listening to "Piece of my Heart" by Janis Joplin
Florence Welch has actually spoke of Janis Joplin, citing her as an influence on her own music, and quoting from the interview:
"I think she really sums up the idea that soul is about putting your pain into something beautiful."
It did get me wondering, you know, what really is soul? Obviously i'm not meaning the genre.. although to describe the genre, take the quote from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame soul is, "music that arose out of the black experience in America through the transmutation of gospel and rhythm and blues into a form of funky, secular testifying." Not quite the sort of soul we're meaning here.
When people say, "put your heart and soul into it" they mean, quite obviously, to put everything you have into it. Maybe soul is more about having this passion for what you do. This leads you back to Janis Joplin, who ripped through every lyric in her songs with such great passion and soul in her voice. She put everything she had into it.. no?
Well i think it's safe to say that Florence had it pretty bang on, because that's what great music is.. the pain felt by the artist translated into song..but i still think to have soul is to have passion. And what's life without that?

There's something about this song that just makes you want to open your arms out wide and sing along at the top of your voice..
i love that.
